Revitalizing Lace with Modern Design

We all have drawers filled with lace doyleys, lovingly made by our mothers and grandmothers. Once used as decorative accents on coffee tables and armchairs, these delicate pieces now hold only sentimental value. Sokolic saw the potential in these forgotten treasures and set out to create something truly unique.

Using lace and PMMA (Poly(methyl methacrylate)), Sokolic carefully encased the lace between two plates of transparent Plexiglas. This technique preserves the lace's transparency while giving it a new purpose. The result is a collection of cuff bracelets that not only showcase the beauty of lace but also pay homage to the women who created it.

One of the challenges Sokolic faced was finding the right balance between heating the PMMA to bend it without damaging the delicate lace. Through experimentation and careful temperature control, she was able to successfully connect the lace and Plexiglas without the need for glue.

The cuff bracelets are designed to be one size fits all, with an open back for easy wearability. Each bracelet measures 130 x 75 x 50 mm, making them the perfect accessory to add a touch of elegance to any outfit.

Sokolic's Lacey collection was created in her hometown of Zagreb, Croatia over several months of meticulous work. The project has not yet been showcased, making it an exciting and exclusive addition to the world of fashion and accessories.

These cuff bracelets have already gained recognition in the design world, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Fashion and Travel Accessories category in 2015. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, technical skill, and a commitment to improving quality of life.
